How does the new Internet look and what does it promises to bring us?!

We all deal in content (e.g. information) but was the Internet constructed to handle such heavy bandwidth traffic? Can it be optimized and how should we achieve that?
Information Centric Architectures are already a reality but what do they actually bring? Are they a promoter of internet freedom and free speech or a mechanism for repression? How will they change the way we interact with devices?
And more important, what are the ethical principles on which one should base the construction of such a new architecture?
